Cows Left to Suffer
for Land O' Lakes..

A new PETA undercover investigation inside a Land O'Lakes supplier facility in Pennsylvania has revealed routine neglect and cruelty to cows who are milked for the Fortune 250 company's products. Over the course of several months, the investigation documented deplorable, filthy conditions for cows on the farm, such as pens that were filled with deep excrement (see video and photos), and cows who suffered from ailments and conditions so severe that they collapsed and became "downers" but were not put out of their misery or given veterinary care in a timely manner, if at all.
Land O'Lakes "inspected" the farm as recently as June 2009 and even noted that there were areas in need of cleaning (including the milking parlor walls!) but approved the facility nonetheless.  
Cows on dairy factory farms are not given much more than the numbered tag that is punched through their ears to identify them. Read more about what happened to a few of the cows who lived and died miserably at one such farm. 

The farm's owner and one of his sons were caught on video electro-shocking cows who were in too much pain to stand up. One of the farmer's sons kicked a cow and jabbed her with the blade of a pocket knife. Both the father and son have now been charged with cruelty to animals.
The dairy industry's standard forms of cruelty also led to suffering for these cows. In order to make milking easier, cows' tails were amputated by tightly binding them with elastic bands, causing the skin and tissue to slowly die and slough off and leaving the animals unable to swat away flies, which, in addition to tormenting the cows, also led to the spread of disease. Tail-docking is unnecessary and cruel, which is why it has been condemned by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dairy farmers don’t allow cows―whose pregnancies last for nine months, just like human pregnancies―to spend any significant time with their calves, who are taken from their mothers shortly after birth. Cows are intelligent animals who can remember things for a long time, and they have the capacity to worry about the future.

PETA's investigation also reveals cows and calves who were kept in pens and barns whose floors were covered with deep excrement, which caused foot and hoof problems and fostered the spread of disease. Calves rescued from the farm had pneumonia, "manure scald," ringworm, pinkeye, and parasites. Some cows suffered respiratory distress and had pus-filled nasal discharge streaming down their faces. Abscesses were common on the farm—some of them burst and oozed pus, even as cows were being milked, as can be seen in our video.

World-renowned meat and dairy industry expert Dr. Temple Grandin, after reviewing the footage, said, "The conditions are absolutely atrocious. ... It was obvious that the place was seldom cleaned and ... that many sick animals were not receiving veterinary treatment. ... The dairy manager totally NEGLECTED his animals. ... Many animals suffer greatly." 

PETA is calling on Land O'Lakes to implement and enforce a 12-point animal welfare plan to govern all cooperative members' dairy-farming operations, which will eliminate some of the worst abuses to cows raised for their milk. Write to Land O'Lakes President Christopher Policinski now and urge him to implement the plan today. I *heart* glee

I really, really love FOX's new show GLEE!  I think it's clever, fun and so much fun to watch.  Jane Lynch is genius in everything she does.  That said, I think the entire cast is fantastic!  If you haven't watched the show yet you've got to check it out.

Shake Weight!

Every once in awhile a true gem is introduced into the marketing world.  Now it is time to witness the product of 2009.  It is the SHAKE WEIGHT!  I'm not really sure what the hell they were thinking when they made this commercial but it is simply priceless.  Do you think some pervy guys were sitting around getting quite a chuckle over this one?  Or perhaps they wanted their lady-friends to be able to give a more powerful reach-around.

So this video actually makes me like this song... a little.  It ranks up there as one of the gayest videos ever and I love it!  It's actually shot well and the boys are hot :)  What more do you need?  Hot boys running around, shirtless singing Miley Cirus' "Party in the USA," I think that makes for a great day.

Leslie Hall and HBO?

Leslie Hall is in talks with HBO for her own show! I will definitely have to watch it. I can't even imagine what it would be like. I can only think it would be some like "Just Say Julie" (MTV) on lots and lots of crack and some acid thrown in.

Partners in Crime

No I'm not talking about George Bush and the Oil Industry, I'm talking about the cheesy TV show starring Lynda Carter and Loni Anderson!

I just found this and boy what a gem!  I do remember this show and I think I was totally into it.  How did anyone think I was straight?  Ever.  They don't make them like this anymore!  And that may be a good thing.

First of all the intro alone is like a minute and a half.  The also linger on the puzzle piece "special effect" for quite awhile, though I guess in the day that was cutting edge.



I'm sorry but don't you think these two are completely believable crime solvers?  I know I do.  Loni Anderson totally blends in when she's out snooping around.  Come on, ducking behind the corner of that building.  I'm sure no one noticed her at all.

Here's a classic episode called "Is He or Isn't She."  It's about a wealthy man's son getting kidnapped and our crime solving gals look to the kidnapped man's "friend" for help.  Only that "friend" is a drag queen!  Holla!  Serena is played by Christopher Morley and he really does a great job playing a woman.  He played quite a few "female" roles in the 80's according to his IMDB page.  Enjoy!






This part is the best of the whole episode because this is where they stumble upon a drag club and get mistaken for drag queens.  Fabulous!







PS I love the dub over of "Serena's" voice. So subtle!!!

She's the Sheriff

Maybe not THE worst shows in television history but it's up there!  I actually think it's so terrible that it is fabulous.  When is it coming out on DVD?

CLUE

I love the movie CLUE!  It is one of my all time favorite movies.  It was definitely an influence on my new play THE LIPSTICK MASSACRE which will debut November 2009 at MuCCC in Rochester.  My play has three different endings (a la CLUE) in which the audience will decide who the killer is!

Farewell Patrick Swayze

I'm sad that Patrick Swayze lost his battle to cancer.  It's such a horrible disease and to see him look as gaunt as he was is just crushing.  No one should have to watch themselves deteriorate.  I think he was a good actor and will leave behind some great films.  My personal favs are of course Ghost, Red Dawn, Dirty Dancing and Too Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar.

The Dark Crystal Rap Style, yo!

I love the movie "The Dark Crystal" and was excited that they possibly, maybe, but-who-knows now are making a sequel.  This video about that "sequel" is fucking hysterical!

Best VMA interview I've ever seen!

Why can't celebrities today take some notes from past VMA moments.  Don't interrupt someone's speech and be a douche, interrupt their interview and be a fabulous, goddamn, messy rock star.  I live for this Madonna interview where Courtney Love throws her compact at Madge during the interview.  Then takes over the interview to leave Kurt Loder with this "what the hell is going on" look on his face.  C-Love ends her show by passing out.  Thankfully she was wearing panties, which she shows as many times as possible.  I will say Madonna handle this with class and looks A-mazing!
